A 4,000-participant Lions Club Tai Chi event set a world record for the largest gathering with participants from six continents.

Lions Clubs International held a large-scale group Tai Chi event at AsiaWorld-Expo with 4,000 participants, establishing a new world record for the largest Tai Chi gathering featuring attendees from six different continents.

After the completion of the record challenge, the official certification team of SDG World Records verified all data including the number of participants and their places of origin on-site and confirmed the challenge was valid. A certificate presentation ceremony was held right after. Lai King Man, Official Certifier of Sustainable Development World Records and Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Family Office Institute, presented exclusive certification certificates titled "RECORD-BREAKING COLLABORATOR" to eight Lions Club representatives from across the globe. The eight representatives are Mark S. Lyon, A.P. Singh, Dr. Manoj Shah, Tony Benbow, Fabricio Oliveira, Tam Wing Kun, J. Frank Moore, III and Robert Rettby. Each of them received a uniquely numbered certificate themed "The world’s inaugural global Tai Chi event bringing together participants from six continents to promote inclusivity and harmony".

AsiaWorld-Expo was transformed into a Tai Chi venue on the day. Adults and children performed various Tai Chi movements, waving hands and stepping in unison to traditional Chinese music. Tai Chi features slow, gentle rhythms, emphasizing coordination of limbs and harmony between body and mind to relieve mental stress, with every movement following strict standard forms. Participants came from all six continents except Antarctica.

Australian participant Orchelita shared: "I feel so much better and truly joyful. We come from diverse cultures, and Tai Chi centers on relaxation and inner peace."

Local participant Mr. Leung commented: "I never imagined such a scene could take place in Hong Kong. People from all over the world practicing Tai Chi together offers a great chance to promote Chinese culture."

Indian participant Deepak stated: "This event calms my mind, and I hope it can be expanded to all corners of the world."

This mass Tai Chi session served as the grand finale of the 108th Lions Clubs International Convention, breaking the world record for the biggest simultaneous Tai Chi practice with participants from six continents. Lions Clubs International aims to connect people worldwide and popularize mass sports through Tai Chi.

Lu Jiahui, Chairman of the Regional Committee for the 108th Lions Clubs International Convention, said: "Through this experience, we realize all human beings share far more similarities than differences. No divide should exist because of gender, race or religion — we are all citizens of the global village."

Beyond encouraging members to stay fit, Lions Clubs International hopes its members can gain deeper insight into Chinese culture and bring these cultural traditions back to their home countries.

Separately, Lions Clubs International delivered free vision screenings to around 100 primary school students at a school in Tung Chung to detect childhood vision problems at an early stage. Launched two years ago, this initiative has benefited approximately 12,000 primary students across Hong Kong and Macao to date.
